Football: Libya Take on Mauritania Monday As Preparation for World Cup Qualifiers Intensifies
As part of its preparations for its forthcoming home FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifiers next month, the Libyan national football team Monday takes on Mauritania in a friendly international at the Tripoli International Stadium . The 21-string national team squad under the guidance of coach Abdul Hafeez Arbish has been undergoing a training camp in Tripoli since Friday before Monday’s match with Mauritania who arrived in Tripoli on Saturday After this match, on Thursday May 16, the Libyan squad will leave for a more intensive nine-day workout at a training camp in Italy. Then it flies to Jordan for yet another warm-up match against the country’s national team on May 27 before returning to Tripoli to face Tanzania on June 1 before taking on Democratic Republic of Congo in the first of the two Group I qualifiers on June 7. Seven days later, on June 14, Libya hosts Togo at the Benina Stadium, Benghazi. Libya, the only unbeaten team in Group I, currently stand second in the standing with five points from three matches, one behind table toppers Cameroon, Libya’s final group opponents in September in a match that would be expected to decide the winners of the group.
